Latex Outfits on Fashion Catwalks

Latex outfits, recently associated exclusively with fetish wear, now conquer fashion catwalks as the part of famous designers’ collections. This proves the material's versatility and adaptability to various lifestyles beyond fetishes and underground fashion scenes. Latex has successfully transcended boundaries and entered the mainstream collections, capturing the interest of a broader audience. Let’s explore the most famous fashion shows featuring latex outfits, talented designers who set the latex trends and key features of what they offer to latex lovers.

Most Famous Fashion Events Featuring Latex Collections

Latex has been featured in various fashion events around the world, including:

Paris Fashion Week 2023

Paris Fashion Week 2023 featured the entry of the clothing brand Avellano founded by Arthur Avellano and specialized in creating latex outfits.  It was the first time this company presented their Fall-Winter 2023-2024 collection officially at such a scale. It was also the first time this event featured the brand that presents the collection made entirely of latex. The brand became known in 2016, when Arthur’s latex collection captured media attention and won the graduate collection award “Who’s next”.

Avellano blends experimental approach, new technologies and cultural inspirations. Their outfits tend to be more “traditional” breaking the association with latex as something extraordinary. However, all garments made by Avellano have luxury vibes, featuring high quality and precise attention to detail.  Avellano’s latex clothing can be seen on many celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Julia Fox, Cindy Bruna, Willow Smith, Rosalia, and others.

By the way, in 2020, during the pandemic, the famous brand Saint Laurent presented their Fall/Winter collection during Paris Fashion Week. It included the mix of striking and impressive latex garments aimed at various lifestyles. The collection featured a high-waisted pencil skirt with a waistband and zipper at the back, high rise latex leggings, knee-length sleeveless mini dress in eye-catching red, and mini dress with V-neckline, gathered at the waist area with the belt.

London Fashion Week 2024

This event has always associated with edginess, and this year’s London Fashion Week featured many collections of latex clothing from both well-established designers and independent brands.

Founded in the UK in 2014, Shokushu Boutique is one of those brands that impress with a perfect balance of high quality and unique approach. They presented the collection “Under the Sign of the Moon”, featuring full-length and mini dresses, flared skirts, tops and other garments, all with decorative crescent moons.

According to the story of the brand’s owner, Emily, “Under the Sign of the Moon” was significantly influenced by 16th century French queens and mixed elements of East and West cultures. Shokushu Boutique has already presented their custom-made Spring/Summer 2022 collection of latex clothing in 2021, called “Into Temptation”, which drew inspiration from the 16th century Catholic art and architecture, especially silhouettes and iconography. Back then, their Spring/Summer collection featured a lot of a pinks, blues and creams colors with slightly brown.

This time, new Shokushu Boutique’s collection featured Renaissance vibes, with moon iconography with obvious references to goddess Diana, the Virgin Mary and the Catholic Church, with many pinks, reds, purples and blues.

Lingerie Event in London

In 2012, at this event the designer from Japan, Atsuko Kudo, known for her impressive latex creations, presented her “Restricted Love” collection, inspired by the film “In the Mood for Love” released in the same year when she established her brand. Also, the collection featured a strong feeling of melancholy, connected with a non-fulfilling love at the peak of its blossom. In this collection, latex was the only material the designer used for her creative ideas.

The “Restricted Love” fashion collection included latex garments with high collars, corsets and bodysuits, laced high boots, and layered lingerie. Most latex outfits were characterized by a tight fit, emphasizing the idea of restriction and the suppression of emotions mixed with joy. Atsuko Kudo also used fetishistic details with the vibes of earlier times.

According to Atsuko Kudo’s opinion, latex restricts the wearer just in the right amount. And while it may be not for everyone, everyone should try it. People wear latex not to warm up their body or as daily wear. People wear latex for pleasure. While working on her collections, Atsuko Kudo keeps in mind this idea of bringing joyful experience of wearing latex. She believes that with her latex clothing she creates moments existing just for pleasure in this rapidly changing world.

What Are Popular Latex Styling Trends?

Although latex is diverse, we can identify three key styling latex trends:

Monochromatic looks. This includes styles featuring head-to-toe latex ensembles in single, eye-catching colors.

Mixing textures. This is the style, featuring the combination of latex, velvet, leather, lace, denim, and other materials. Mixing textures create a contrast with an emphasis on the unique character of each material.

Layering. This styling is based on using latex garments over conventional fabrics to add depth and dimension to the look and make it more unconventional.

Recap

Famous designers and independent brands continue to popularize latex fashion among the broader audience, by bringing their bold and unconventional ideas of latex garments to life. Featuring monochromic looks, mixed textures and layering, the collection of rubber clothing conquers the hearts of people who like to stand out, make a loud fashion statement and gain pleasure from what they wear.
