Latex for Beginners: How to Choose Your First Piece

The increasing popularity of glossy body-hugging clothing, seen on the red carpets, in the music videos and films, might have already ignited an idea in you to buy latex lingerie. As there are plenty of options, ranging from cloaks to ensembles with cutouts, you might feel a bit confused where to start and what the best piece would be for beginners. To help you sort out this problem, we’ve prepared a guide on how to choose your first latex outfit.

Start with Small Accessories

As for newbies putting catsuits can be a rather challenging process, it would be the best, to start from small pieces such as gloves or stockings. These accessories will provide you with a basic understanding of how latex feels on the skin and how to deal with it. They require minimal effort to put on and what’s more, they are budget-friendly, so they suit beginners who want to experiment with latex fashion without making a significant investment. Dressed in latex stockings, you can have a trendy look, while still not drawing too much attention to your persona. Stockings and gloves match various outfits and textures, so you can wear them with lingerie, dresses, and skirts.

Less fully-covering latex garments like shorts or above-the-knee skirts, are beneficial in the way that they let the skin breath, so you don't risk experiencing uncomfortable feelings. For those who aren’t ready to appear in latex in public, we recommend to start from sets of latex bras and panties. You still have an opportunity to enjoy latex, however hidden from strangers’ eyes. Alternatively, you can begin with latex swimwear, featuring bikinis or a one-piece swimsuit of vivid colors. Their glossy surface playing under the sun’s rays will provide you with truly luxurious appearance.

An accessory like a latex top is another outfit idea that allows you to be acceptable in any circumstances, from parties to more casual situations. This outfit can be balanced with various clothing. For instance, you can try pairing your latex top with a high-waisted pencil skirt or a flared skirt for a more playful vibe.  This top will definitely look well paired with your favorite skinny jeans, wide-leg trousers, or leather pants. The combination of the latex top and denim creates an interesting ensemble. Also, try to experiment with layering, wearing a latex top under a blazer or leather jacket.

Thickness of latex

Apart from colors and sizes, the thickness is another important feature of latex you should pay attention at. The thickness affects the durability, stiffness and stretchiness of latex garment. Thicker outfit serves comparatively longer and resists tears and deformations better than thinner models. Thick latex outfit preserves its look and quality during intensive use. However, thick pieces are stiffer and don’t stretch as well as a thin outfit.

Excellent elastic features characterize clothing made of thin latex, however it doesn’t serve as long as thick latex models and is more susceptible to tears or damage from nails and other sharp objects like jewelry or buttons. The ability of stretching allows thin latex outfits suit well even if you have chosen a slightly wrong size.  It means, you can still put it on, even if your measurement have some issues. However, you can’t have the same effect with a thicker outfit that doesn’t forgive inaccurate measurements.

Most latex outfits, including stockings, gloves, lingerie and some models of full-body suits, are created from latex of 0.4 and 0.5 mm thickness. This material is lightweight and has a delicate feel against the skin, so you can enjoy comfort and ease of movement, wearing these pieces. The thickness of 5mm - 0.6mm is considered medium-thickness latex, used for designing dresses, skirts, tops, and catsuits. Medium-thickness latex features a good balance between flexibility and durability. The thick latex 0.7mm - 1.0mm is commonly used for corsets, jackets, and heavy-duty fetish wear. This type of latex provides excellent support and shaping capabilities, however it may feel less stretchy. Latex ranging 1.0 mm and above is considered an extra-thick material used for creating highly restrictive garments and accessories. Extra-thick latex serves the longest but feels less comfortable and is not the option for extended wear.

Care for Latex Clothing

If you’ve decided on your first latex piece, its style and thickness, there’s another important factor you shouldn’t neglect. Your latex outfit requires proper care and maintenance, otherwise it loses its attractive appearance and form. First, never wash your custom latex clothing in washing machine. Hand wash it in lukewarm water using a gentle soap or latex cleaner. Don’t use harsh detergents and bleach. Remember that it’s sensitive to heat. Never wash it in hot water or use a dryer. After washing, squeeze out excess water and pat dry with a soft towel. Lay flat or hang it to dry in a shaded area away from sunlight and heat sources.

When you think about latex fashion wear, you immediately draw the shiny outfit in your mind, however to let your latex garment shine, you should polish it with a silicone-based lubricant or latex shine spray. Regarding the place for a storage of your first latex collection, it should be cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Since sharp objects can easily pierce the material, store it separately from jewelry.
